At Project Sonrisa, we believe creativity has the power to change how people think and talk about mental health. The arts can bring people together, start meaningful conversations, and help us all see the world, and ourselves, a little differently.
That’s why we launched the Project Sonrisa Volunteer Network - a space for people across Scotland to connect, create, and take part in activities that use the arts to challenge stigma and celebrate wellbeing.
The Volunteer Network is designed to be flexible, inclusive, and community-driven. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to get involved with Project Sonrisa without needing to commit to a fixed schedule or ongoing role.
Maybe you’ve always wanted to contribute but can’t offer regular hours. Maybe you’d just like to stay in the loop and take part when something inspires you. Whatever your situation, the Volunteer Network gives you the chance to get involved in a way that works for you.
You’ll also be joining a growing community of creative people passionate about mental wellbeing.
As a volunteer, you’ll have opportunities to take part in a wide range of creative and community activities throughout the year. Some examples include:
Writing Blogs and Articles
Share your perspective on mental health, wellbeing, or creativity through short pieces for our website or newsletter. No prior experience is needed - we’ll offer guidance on structure, tone, and ideas to help your writing shine.
Creative Reviews
Contribute reviews of books, films, music, or shows that explore mental health themes or creativity. These reviews help open up conversations about representation, emotion, and lived experience in the arts.
Social Media Takeovers
Step behind the scenes and take over our social media for a day! Share your favourite creative works, your thoughts on wellbeing, or insights into your own creative process. We’ll provide full support before and during each takeover.
Bi-Annual Volunteer Summit
Join us twice a year to connect with fellow volunteers, share experiences, and collaborate on new ideas. Our summits are fun, relaxed events that bring together creativity, community, and purpose.
Special Projects and Campaigns
From creative challenges to awareness campaigns, volunteers often get the chance to shape new projects with the Project Sonrisa team - helping us grow our impact and reach new audiences.
Every activity, big or small, plays a role in tackling mental health stigma. By volunteering your creativity, you help foster empathy, understanding, and hope through the power of artistic expression.
Joining the Volunteer Network is simple. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll start receiving updates about upcoming opportunities. You can then choose which ones you’d like to get involved in - there’s no pressure or fixed commitment.
You might write a blog one month, attend a summit the next, or simply take a few months off and re-join later. It’s all about what works best for you.
All volunteers receive:
Clear guidance and support from the Project Sonrisa team when taking on tasks
Resources and templates to help you contribute confidently
Feedback and encouragement to help you grow your creative voice and make a difference for mental wellbeing in Scotland
Access to a supportive community of like-minded volunteers, mental health campaigners and creatives across Scotland
We value every contribution — whether it’s a short post, a single event, or ongoing involvement.
The Volunteer Network is open to anyone who:
