Our Story

Project Sonrisa is a Scottish based charity that takes an intersectional approach to tackling the stigma surrounding mental health. We do this through using the creative arts as a transformational tool for change.

The organisation was founded in July 2020 in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic by Emma Prach. After their own struggles with poor mental health and seeing loved ones struggling to feel less alone and get the support they needed Emma started what initially was a campaign. Project Sonrisa started from one virtual choir which was posted into a local community Facebook page and quickly turned into an organisation.

Over the years we've ran a variety of arts-based projects from virtual choirs to documentaries, mental health and music weeks to podcasts and conducting our own research. We are a small but mighty charity ensuring that equity, diversity and inclusion exists in mental health spaces and creating representation wherever we can.
